Use of the computer lab, mobile lab, mobile keyboards and other technology enhancements are determined by the teacher as she incorporates the use of technology in support of what is being taught in the classroom. The teacher works in collaboration with the school technologist, LMC director and other teachers to effectively teach students the meaningful use of these tools within the context of our technology-rich society. |

In the belief that keyboarding is the first step toward the efficient use of technology, fourth grade students are given 8 weeks of keyboard training in 2 blocks of 4 weeks each. Students are taught the home row keys and correct keyboarding posture to avoid injury and facilitate correct finger placement. Emphasis is placed on accuracy over speed and the need to focus on the screen or copy and not the fingers. Fifth grade students are given a 2 week review of the home row keys, proper finger placement and correct posture. They continue to practice keyboarding according to the teacher’s scheduling of curriculum-related word processing activities. |
