Americana Intermediate School serves approximately 400 4th and 5th grade students in the community of Glendale Heights. Our mission is to work in partnership with families and the community to empower students to become lifelong learners who are productively engaged in our ever changing world.
The Americana staff is committed to providing our students with access to educational opportunities that include a research-based curriculum with authentic literature and texts. A daily social-emotional curriculum helps our students become effective communicators and independent problem solvers. Additionally, our students receive targeted academic support at their own level in W.I.N. class (What I Need). Problem-based learning opportunities are offered throughout the content areas including STEM, Math, and Interactive Science classes. Every Americana student has access to a Chromebook that helps support and extend the curriculum. Students use Google Classroom, interact with virtual labs, access their ReadyGen texts, math tools and Successmaker.
Americana students are exposed to a framework of growth mindset in order to assist them with academic stamina and perseverance. Our teachers differentiate learning in order to meet the diverse needs of our students, and challenge them to become their best selves on a daily basis. We offer challenge math/reading classes as well as Transitional Bilingual and ELL supports.
Americana Intermediate School offers a range of extra-curricular opportunities for our students to allow them to explore interests outside of the school day. Clubs such as Destination Imagination, Dance, Cross Country, Drama, Girls on the Run, and Young Rembrandts are offered. In addition, Americana has active Student Council, band, and intramural programs. This year, our Battle of the Books Team placed in 2nd place at the cross-town classic competition.
We honor our partnerships with our parents and the community, and have the consistent support of an involved PTO. Americana School hosts a variety of events for our students and families such as Field Day, STEAM Night, Open House, Band Concerts and a Talent Show. Annually Americana students are honored for outstanding character with pillar awards through the Glendale Heights Character Counts Coalition. We value consistent communication with parents and our community, and look forward to our next opportunity to partner or speak with you to ensure that your child has the most successful year possible.
