  • Winter Weather Tips

Make sure your student is dressed for the weather. They snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves/mittens to be able to play outside in the snow. If they wear boots to school, they must have gym shoes to participate in PE.

    Nurse's Corner

Happy February! The sky is blue, the air is chilly, and our kids are coming down with the sniffles. As a reminder, even if our students have just a small stuffy nose, it is important to keep them home to ensure that they return to school happy and healthy. As a reminder, these are the steps you should take if your student begins to exhibit cold-like symptoms.

    1. Keep your child home and notify the office. We want to make sure they are 100% themselves before coming to school to learn. If they are not healthy, they are not learning!

    2. Monitor your child’s symptoms and schedule a COVID test. While not all illnesses are COVID-related, we want to make sure our students get the appropriate care. Some places you can go for COVID tests is as follows:

      1. Primary care provider

      2. Local Walgreens, CVS, Walmart

      3. Odeum Expo Center, located at 1033 N Villa Ave, Villa Park, IL, 60181. The testing site is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am- 6:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am- 1:00pm.

    3. Email negative test results to the nurse and keep your student home until they are symptom-free and fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. You can email test results to jpalmisano@queenbee16.org or call my office at (630) 260-6142. If your student does not have COVID, then we want to keep them home until they are feeling better…we don’t want to get anyone else sick! If they test positive, I will make a follow-up call and provide you with further instructions.

If you have any questions regarding symptoms, where to get COVID vaccinations, etc., feel free to contact me at the information below.

Remember, you’re not learning if you’re not healthy! Thank you for all of your cooperation throughout this crazy time that has become our new “normal”. With your help, our mitigation practices are working and will continue to keep our students safe.

Need Help from the Office? Make an Appointment

Please remember that the beginning and end of the day are very hectic for everyone. If you stop by to see someone in the office during these times, we will ask you to wait until we've taken care of students. You can always make an appointment to see us. This can save you time in your day.

    SEL Spot

his month, our schoolwide theme is problem-solving. In our morning announcements we’ll be reminding students to use the Second Step Problem-Solving Steps:

    S: Say the problem

    T: Think of solutions

    E: Explore consequences

    P: Pick the best solution

As you can see, the first letter of each

step spells the word ”step.” Remembering “step” helps students solve problems with

each other in safe and respectful ways.

Second Step lessons specifically teach students to use each step and reinforce the message that solutions need to be safe and

respectful. Ask your child to describe why solving problems is important. Talking to them about it can help them learn and practice the steps. We hope the steps will be helpful for you and your child when there are problems at home.

Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about how to use the Problem-Solving Steps at home.

    Severe Weather Dismissal

When we have inclement weather, we do not want to send students outside to wait for their rides home. We will hold students in the building and call them out to the cars once a family arrives. If there is enough time, we will send out an email blast notifying families of the dismissal process as it occurs.

For walkers, please pick up your student at the back of the new gym. We will dismiss all walkers out the back door (Door 12)

Car riders will exit Door 13. Please do not stand close to Door 13, since that slows down our ability to safely get students from the building.
