    Dolphin Dollars

We are implementing a positive behavior support program at Glen Hill. The goal is to improve the school environment with positive behaviors. Students caught doing the right thing are acknowledged with "Dolphin Dollars." They can earn Dolphin Dollars for nearly anything; so they need to be doing the right thing all the time. Each month, students will be challenged with a goal aligned to our expectations:

    Caring

    Responsible

    Always Learning

Students can cash in their Dolphin Dollars for our Monthly School Wide Celebrations and a grade level raffle. Students who do not collect enough will have a reteaching of expectations.

    Family Communications

Our main form of communication from Glen Hill is through email. We understand that sometimes the emails are not getting into inboxes. While we know different email companies (iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, etc) have different strategies to help with this problem, here is one fix we can suggest for anyone.

When Picking Up Your Student at Glen Hill

The first time you or an emergency contact is picking up your student from school, we require an ID to be presented to the office. If the person is not listed in your emergency contacts, we will be contacting you before we release the student to their care. This is for the safety of all students.

    Second Step

Over the next two months, our schoolwide theme is problem solving. In our morning announcements we’ll be reminding students to use the Second Step Problem-Solving Steps:

    • S: Say the problem

    • T: Think of solutions

    • E: Explore consequences

    • P: Pick the best solution

As you can see, the first letter of each step spells the word ”step.” Remembering “step” helps students solve problems with each other in safe and respectful ways.

Second Step lessons specifically teach students to use each step and reinforce the message that solutions need to be safe and respectful. If you would like to receive the Home Links about the steps that describe why solving problems is important and including fun activities to do with your student to help him or her learn and practice the steps, please reach out to your student's teacher. We hope the steps will be helpful for you and your student when there are problems at home.

    Building Your Child's Vocabulary

Talking to and reading with your child are two terrific ways to help them hear and read new words. Conversations and questions about interesting words are easy, non-threatening ways to get new words into everyday talk. Here are some ideas to get you started.

  • Toys & Pokemon Cards

Please do not send your student to school with items such as Pokemon cards, toys, fidgets, or other important items. These things can be distracting to your student's learning.

    Winter Weather Reminder

Hoping for more milder temperatures soon, we know we can still get more snow. Please make sure your student is dressed for the weather. They need snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves/mittens to be able to play outside in the snow. If they wear boots to school, they must have gym shoes to participate in PE.

    Early Dismissal for Your Student?

While we make every attempt to have your student ready for an early dismissal, sometimes we need to locate the class during the day (during recess or specials). This can take some time, so please allow yourself a few extra minutes when coming to school during the day to pick your student up early.

    Coming Into the Building

Safety is our number one priority at Glen Hill. For this reason we need to limit the amount of people that are in our vestibule at one time. When coming to the school, please ring the bell and wait for one of our office staff members to let you into the building. If you are in the building, please do not open the door for visitors. Following this protocol will help to ensure the safety of everyone visiting the building.

    Updated Health Information

If your student has any updates to their medical needs (such as an outside diagnosis or medication changes), please contact Nurse Jenna as soon as possible.

    Morning Arrival Procedures

It is important for all students to arrive on time and ready to learn every morning. In order to ensure students are safely in the building and ready to begin their day, we ask families to be here before the 8:15 bell rings. In the event that your student arrives later, we have procedures in place in make sure they get the information they need to start the day. Any students arriving after the 8:20 bell are officially tardy to school. Families MUST sign them in for the day. We have all students waiting until after our daily announcements to get to their classrooms. Thank you for your support in getting your students to school on time!

Bus Lane & South Parking Lot

Our bus lanes are reserved for our busses. Please park in the parking lot when arriving at Glen Hill. Do not use the bus lane during the school day.

The south parking lot is reserved for staff. We do not have supervision there in the mornings and afternoons during arrival and dismissal.

    Car Line

In order to make sure our students are safe, please observe the following directions for dropping off and picking up your students. We know how valuable everyone's time is, but we also know keeping our students and staff safe is our priority.

    • Wait your turn in the line and do not move out of the car line.
    • Students should be let out of their cars curbside within the blue arrows.
    • Right turn on Bloomingdale Road only-NO LEFT TURN during the school day.
    • We discourage parking your car to drop off or pick your child, as it's a safety risk to your student.

If you choose to walk your student to school, we recommend parking along Glen Hill Drive and walking to the building. The picture below shows the ideal places to park.

Need Help from the Office? Make an Appointment

Please remember that the beginning and end of the day are very hectic for everyone. If you stop by to see someone in the office during these times, we will ask you to wait until we've taken care of students. You can always make an appointment to see us. This can save you time in your day.
  • Glen Hill Expectations

    Severe Weather Dismissal

When we have inclement weather, we do not want to send students outside to wait for their rides home. We will hold students in the building and call them out to the cars once a family arrives. If there is enough time, we will send out an email blast notifying families of the dismissal process as it occurs.

For walkers, please pick up your student at the back of the new gym. We will dismiss all walkers out the back door (Door 12)

Car riders will exit Door 13. Please do not stand close to Door 13, since that slows down our ability to safely get students from the building.
