Letter from Superintendent
June 7, 2020
Dear Queen Bee 16 Families,
We find ourselves in an unprecedented time in our nation. The events of the last few months will certainly fill history books for years to come. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so much in our daily routines. We are forced to find new ways to stay connected, even as we maintain our physical distance for the safety of those we care for and those we may not know. The tragic death of Mr. George Floyd unleashed a torrent of emotion throughout our country. His death brings to the forefront challenging conversations about what policing should look like, what civic engagement looks like, and how we tackle race relations.
We have had to face all of these challenges individually, and as a society. The questions we face are difficult and thought-provoking in so many respects. None of the answers will be quick to surface. Each of us will be called in our own way to do our part to create a better community for our children. From social distancing to difficult conversations, now more than ever communicating with each other, listening to the voices of our neighbors, and learning to expand our understanding is vital.
Our organization is dedicated to education, even when doing so requires overcoming unique obstacles. There is no roadmap for what the future holds. We do know that the teachers, administrators, and staff of Queen Bee School District 16 are committed to each of our students. We will not let barriers or obstacles stand in the way of our desire to provide quality education.
As we put into place plans for the coming school year, we are attentive to how the events of today may impact the future. Our commitment to each of you is to keep you fully informed of what steps we are taking and how we plan to forge ahead. Education is a life-long journey that must continue, even in these unlikely times.
I am incredibly proud of how each member of the extended Queen Bee School District 16 family has risen to overcome adversity unseen in our lifetimes. I speak for all of our employees when I say we look forward to continuing our service to the noble mission of educating the next generation.
With respect,
Joseph R. Williams, Ed. D.
