NEW MEAL PROGRAM INFORMATION!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Last week, the USDA announced new meal program waivers, which allow our district to once again provide healthy meal access to all children in the community ages 18 and younger.  We are excited to have the opportunity to expand our meal program services!

Our last meal pick up under our current program will be Friday, September 11th.  On Friday, we will distribute multiple days of meal packs.  In order to receive meals for Monday, September 14th and Tuesday, September 15th, you must pre-order below by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th @ 7 pm.  Please pick up the meals at the pick-up location you select on the order form.

NEW MEAL PROGRAM INFORMATION!

The new meal program will start on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th.  Meals will be provided to children 18 and younger, FREE of charge.  Please select one of the following pick up times:

GLENSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL (Door 4)

6:30 – 7:45 AM OR 1:30 – 2:30 PM

Meals will be distributed in a drive-thru format outside of Door 4.  All meals will be distributed on WEDNESDAYS.  Meal packs contain BREAKFAST and LUNCH for 5 days.  Breakfasts and lunches will be individually packed so students can easily take them wherever they are learning.

What if my child is learning in person at school in a hybrid instruction cohort?
If your child is learning in school, your child is required to bring the school lunch picked up on Wednesday or bring a lunch from home for consumption at school.  Thermal totes will be provided on the first day of meal pick up so your child can safely take the cold meals to school.  No meals or milk will be provided at school on in-person school days - parents/guardians are required to send meals with their child and are encouraged to send refillable water bottles with their child.

What is the menu?
Menus are posted on the Nutrition page of the Queen Bee District 16 website.  Click here to go directly to the page.  Menus meet the nutritional guidelines for the USDA funded National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.  Meals contain all components of the school meal: entrée, fruit, and vegetables.  All menu items can be made vegetarian, so there is no need for vegetarian requests in the new program.

What is the safety protocol for picking up meals?
Please do not come to meal pick up if you are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms.  A face covering (mask) is required for pick up.   Please have your trunk or back seat empty for staff to place food in your car.

What if I need vegetarian meals or have a child that needs accommodations due to a severe food allergy?

All meals can be made vegetarian, so there is no need to place a special request for vegetarian meals.  If you need an accommodation due to food allergy, please CLICK HERE to complete a menu modification form.

What if I cannot pick up meals?
Please contact Deb Kamperman, Supervisor of Food & Nutrition Services at dkamperman@queenbee16.org  and we will work to accommodate families on a case by case basis.
