Dear Queen Bee 16 Families,

 

I hope that this email finds you well and that you are enjoying the summer. We have been busy with Summer School, preparing our schools for next year and we have made significant progress on our operations building at the Glenside Campus. Our Summer School enrollment is over 300 students, and the entire program got off to a great start this week.  

 

Over the past four years, we have undertaken significant improvements to all of our schools as part of our ongoing effort to ensure that our facilities meet the needs of our students and are appropriately updated to take advantage of advances in the technology available to our students and staff. The construction of gymnasiums at Glen Hill and Americana have been excellent additions, as have the renovations to the Queen Bee Early Childhood Center and each of our Libraries.  The parking loops at each campus have increased the level of safety for pedestrian traffic as well as expediting the student drop-off and pick-up processes.  All of these projects present logistical challenges that we work through with our Construction Management Team and our Architects.  

 

Our current project is the construction of a Queen Bee Operations Building that will house our Operations team and the District Administration. This building replaces the structure immediately behind Glenside Middle School, that is beyond its useful life. The Operations Building project is on schedule for completion this Winter and we have made significant progress.  However, due to circumstances beyond our control, elements of the project that allow for access to Glenside while the building is being completed are slightly off of the proposed schedule.  

 

Specifically, the ground work associated with the storm drains and utilities connections that are under the Glenside Parking Lot were more considerable than initially surveyed.  At this point, I am not confident that the parking lot will be available for traffic on August 16th, which has been the proposed first day of student attendance for this year.  

 

As a result, we are altering our schedule to ensure that all of our facilities are available and fully functional for our students and staff on the first day of attendance. The first day of Student Attendance for the 2023-2024 School Year will be on Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give our Construction Team four additional work days to ensure that we are ready for our students and faculty to return. The last day of Student Attendance for the 2023-2024 School Year will be May 30th, 2024. All other Holiday Breaks and Teacher Institute Days will remain as they were.    

 

There is a remote possibility that we could have achieved our initial goal; however, I could not in good conscience take the risk that we would not be ready while leaving our community with little time to adjust their individual schedules. It is my hope that this early notice gives each family the time necessary to make adjustments to their remaining Summer schedule.  

 

It is understood that this change may not be welcomed by all, and I can only ask for your understanding in this instance. We are excited for the start of the new year, and I am confident that our team will continue to make every effort to ensure that each student receives an outstanding education in Queen Bee 16 Schools.  Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any additional concerns, questions, or insights to share.

Estimadas familias de Queen Bee 16,

 

Espero que este correo te encuentre bien y que estés disfrutando del verano. Hemos estado ocupados con la Escuela de Verano, preparando nuestras escuelas para el próximo año y hemos hecho un progreso significativo en nuestro edificio de operaciones en las instalaciones de Glenside. Nuestra inscripción a la Escuela de Verano es de más de 300 estudiantes, y todo el programa tuvo un gran comienzo esta semana.  

 

Durante los últimos cuatro años, hemos llevado a cabo mejorías significativas en todas nuestras escuelas como parte de nuestro esfuerzo continuo para garantizar que nuestras instalaciones satisfagan las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes y estén debidamente actualizadas para aprovechar los avances en la tecnología disponible para nuestros estudiantes y personal. La construcción de los gimnasios en Glen Hill y Americana han sido excelentes adiciones, al igual que las renovaciones en el Centro de Primera Infancia Queen Bee y cada una de nuestras bibliotecas.  Los estacionamientos en cada instalación han aumentado el nivel de seguridad para el tráfico de peatones y han agilizado el proceso de dejar y recoger a los estudiantes. Todos estos proyectos presentan desafíos logísticos en los que trabajamos con nuestro equipo de administración de construcción y nuestros arquitectos.  

 

Nuestro proyecto actual es la construcción de un edificio de operaciones Queen Bee que albergará nuestro equipo de operaciones y la administración del distrito. Este edificio reemplaza la estructura inmediatamente detrás de la Escuela Intermedia Glenside, que está más allá de su vida útil. El proyecto del Edificio de Operaciones está programado para completarse este invierno y hemos logrado un progreso significativo. Sin embargo, debido a circunstancias fuera de nuestro control, los elementos del proyecto que permiten el acceso a Glenside mientras se completa el edificio están un poco fuera del calendario (tiempo) propuesto.

 

Específicamente, el trabajo de terreno asociado con los desagües y las conexiones de los servicios públicos que se encuentran debajo del estacionamiento de Glenside fue más considerable de lo que inicialmente se midió. En este momento, no estoy seguro de que el estacionamiento esté disponible para el tráfico el 16 de agosto, que ha sido el primer día propuesto de asistencia de los estudiantes para este año.  

 

Como resultado, estamos modificando nuestro horario para garantizar que todas nuestras instalaciones estén disponibles y en pleno funcionamiento para nuestros estudiantes y personal el primer día de asistencia. El primer día de asistencia estudiantil para el año escolar 2023-2024 será el martes 22 de agosto. Esto le dará a nuestro equipo de construcción cuatro días laborales adicionales para garantizar que estemos listos para el regreso de nuestros estudiantes y maestros.  El último día de asistencia de los estudiantes para el año escolar 2023-2024 será el 30 de mayo de 2024. Todos los demás días feriados y días de instituto para maestros permanecerán como estaban.

 

Existe una remota posibilidad de que hubiésemos logrado nuestro objetivo inicial; sin embargo, no podía correr el riesgo de que no estuviéramos listos dejando a nuestra comunidad con poco tiempo para ajustar sus horarios individuales. Espero que este aviso temprano le dé a cada familia el tiempo necesario para hacer ajustes en su horario de verano restante.  

 

Se entiende que este cambio puede no ser bien recibido por todos, y solo puedo pedirles comprensión en este caso. Estamos emocionados por el comienzo del nuevo año y estoy seguro de que nuestro equipo continuará haciendo todo lo posible para garantizar que cada estudiante reciba una educación sobresaliente en las escuelas Queen Bee 16.
